To run Hermes Agent on 5abeer, install Hermes, then add a custom provider named 5abeer to ~/.hermes/config.yaml with the 5abeer base URL, your 5abeer API key and a default model. Run hermes in the terminal and ask for anything; every request is paid from your 5abeer balance. With a subscription, the 5abeer AI app does this setup for you.

What you get#

  • Hermes as it ships, with 5abeer ready as a custom provider.
  • The Claude, GPT and Gemini models available in Hermes, below their official price.
  • Usage and cost per key in your dashboard.

Before you start#

  • A terminal on macOS, Linux or Windows.
  • An API key for the provider of the model you will use (create one). The config below uses a Claude model, so it needs a key for Claude models.

With a subscription: the 5abeer AI app#

If you have a 5abeer subscription that includes Hermes, the 5abeer AI app sets it up on your subscription in one click, with no API key and no files to edit. The app runs on Mac, Windows and Linux; details in What each plan runs. With an API key, follow the manual setup below.

Manual setup#

  1. Install Hermes#

    curl -fsSL https://hermes-agent.nousresearch.com/install.sh | bash

The first command also works inside WSL2 on Windows.

  2. Add the settings#

Add these settings to ~/.hermes/config.yaml, keeping your other settings if the file already exists. The key lives inside the file, so replace YOUR_5ABEER_API_KEY with your key.

    config.yaml
    model:
      default: claude-sonnet-5.5
      provider: 5abeer
    custom_providers:
      - name: 5abeer
        base_url: https://api.5abeer.ai/v1
        api_key: YOUR_5ABEER_API_KEY
        api_mode: chat_completions
        models:
          claude-sonnet-5.5: {}

    ~/.hermes/config.yaml

  3. Run it#

    Terminal
    hermes

Ask for anything. If a reply comes back, you're set. For the newer full-screen interface, run hermes --tui.

Pick a model#

These models run in Hermes today. Add the model id under models in the provider section, then set it on the default line, or switch inside Hermes with /model. Remember that each key works only with its own provider's models.

Questions#

Hermes changed my custom_providers section. Is that a problem?#

No. Hermes reads the custom_providers list used above, and hermes update may move it into its newer providers section. Your 5abeer settings keep working after the move.

Do I need a Nous Portal or OpenRouter account?#

No. With the 5abeer provider set as the default, Hermes sends your requests to 5abeer with your 5abeer key.

Where is my key stored?#

In ~/.hermes/config.yaml on your machine, as plain text. Don't share the file, and replace the key there if you create a new one.

How is a request billed?#

Each request is paid from your balance by the tokens it uses, at the model's 5abeer price. Details in Pricing and balance.
